Driving Under the Influence and Related Offenses 22 yr old male – Bangor PA

At 1:22 pm on 2-9-2019, a SBRPD officer stopped a vehicle for traffic violations on Rudolph Rd in Plainfield Township.  Police subsequently took the male into custody for DUI after struggling with officers. While the suspect was standing near the police vehicle handcuffed, he abruptly smashed his head against the rear window of the police vehicle, breaking the window and causing a laceration to his head.  After being transported to St. Lukes Hospital for treatment, he was later released and taken to Northampton Central Booking for arraignment. The suspect was charged with DUI, Resisting Arrest, Institutional Vandalism, Driving while Suspended and Careless Driving.

Arrested on Felony Warrant 27 yr old male – Walnutport PA

At 3;32 pm on 2-13-2019, SBRPD police stopped a vehicle for an expired registration in the 500 block of E. Main St. in Pen Argyl Borough.  Police spoke to the occupants of the vehicle and learned that a 27 year old male passenger was wanted on an active felony warrant for Robbery and Unlawful Restraint out of Lehighton Borough Police Department.  Officers took the male into custody and turned him over to Lehighton Borough Police.

Arrested on Outstanding Warrant/Drug Paraphernalia 37 yr old female – Saylorsburg PA

At 9:25pm on 2-13-2019, a SBRPD officer observed a male and female standing at the trailhead of the Appalachian Trail on N. Broadway in Wind Gap Borough.  Officers learned that the female had an active bench warrant out of Carbon County for a parole violation. Upon taking the female in to custody, officers found a glass pipe containing suspected methamphetamine residue.  The female is charged with Possession of drug paraphernalia. She was transported to the Northampton County Prison.

Arrested on Outstanding Warrant 36 yr old male – Bangor PA  

At 11:12pm, on 2-13-2019, a SBRPD officer observed two people on the side of the Verizon store at A St. and S. Broadway in Wind Gap Borough.  Officers approached the male and female and found that the male was wanted on an active warrant out of Monroe County. The male was taken into custody and transported to the Monroe County Correctional Center.

Arrest(s) – Criminal Mischief – Weona Park, Pen Argyl Borough, St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pen Argyl Borough

On October 4, 2018 the Slate Belt Regional Police Department responded to a report of Criminal Mischief to the dugouts and pool walls in Weona Park, Pen Argyl Borough and also a report of vandalism (graffiti) at the St. John’s Church on Westbrook Ave., in Pen Argyl Borough. Police arrived on scene and found that the dugouts to the baseball field and a wall of the pool had been spray painted with various graffiti. The sign at the church had been spray painted by unknown persons and this graffiti was similar to that painted at the Weona Park. The subjects who vandalized the park were caught on video surveillance and still photographs from the video were placed on the SBRPD social media page. Officers received numerous tips, leading to the subsequent interviews and arrests of the following individuals. All were charged with the vandalism and related charges. Adult charges were filed on 10/15/2018 at MDJ Zito’s Office in Bangor.

Terroristic Threats

On Friday, February 23rd, SBRPD investigated a report from the Pen Argyl High School of a student who had made threats while inside the school.  Police interviewed students who advised that they had overheard the 16 year old student make threats to “shoot up the school” and claimed he had a “kill list”.  Police learned that the student was placed on suspension from the school district.  Police brought the student into headquarters where he was interviewed, taken into custody and lodged at the Youth Detention Center.

Police later served a search warrant at the home of the student and found no weapons, writings or “kill list”.  The student appeared to make no attempt to harm any students/staff and made no substantial attempt to acquire weapons.

Police worked closely with the Pen Argyl School District Staff, Northampton County Juvenile Probation and the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office during this investigation.  Since the school shooting in Parkland Florida, SBRPD officers have  increased patrols in the area of our schools and have increased foot patrols inside the school buildings.

Retail Theft – (Felony)  Bernadette Kureczka   Tobyhanna PA  / Ariel Rogers  Tobyhanna PA

 On 1/16/2018, Kureczka and Rogers, both of Tobyhanna PA, turned themselves in to the Slate Belt Regional Police Department on charges of Felony Retail Theft and Conspiracy from Cramers Home Center in Wind Gap PA.  On 12/20/2017, SBRPD investigated the theft of over $1,100 worth of Dewalt batteries from Cramers Home Center.  The above suspects entered the store, concealed and stole Dewalt batteries and fled the store.  Kureczka and Rogers were developed as suspects in the investigation along with John J. Rogers – W/M 43 yrs of age.  John Rogers is wanted on a warrant for the Felony Retail Theft.

Kureczka and Ariel Rogers were arraigned at MDJ Schlegel’s office in Wind Gap and failed to post $50,000 bail.  Both were lodged in the Northampton County Prison.

Simple Assault –  Jody Lee Bennett     S. Westbrook Ave, Pen Argyl PA

On 1-14-2018 at 1:55am, SBRPD officers were called to the area of Bangor Rd in Plainfield Twp for a report of a domestic assault inside a vehicle.  Police learned that while inside the vehicle, Bennett engaged in an argument with a female who was driving the vehicle.  During the argument, Bennett struck the female in the face, causing a bloody nose.  Bennett was taken into custody and transported to the Northampton County Central Booking Center for arraignment.  Bennett’s bail was set at $5,000 / 10% which was posted.

 Possession of Narcotics – Cassandra Youngling   –      No Fixed Address

On 1-9-2018 at 11:15 pm , SBRPD officers were dispatched to the McDonalds on Rte 512 in Plainfield Twp for a report of a Domestic Dispute in the parking lot.  Officers arrived and found that Youngling was arguing with a male inside the vehicle.  While investigating the incident, officers observed controlled substances, belonging to Youngling in plain view inside the vehicle.   Youngling was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and paraphernalia.  She was taken into custody and arraigned.  Youngling was incarcerated at the Northampton County Correctional Facility on $2,500 bail.

Retail Theft – Giant Food Store  837 Male Rd. Wind Gap

Sherry Stockum   Saylorsburg PA

On 12-14-2017, SBRPD arrested Stockum for a Retail Theft of over $80.00 of meat from the Giant in Wind Gap Borough.  Stockum was charged with a Felony Retail Theft and arraigned by MDJ Grifo.  Stockum was given $10,000 unsecured bail.

Terroristic Threats, Indecent Exposure, Open Lewdness

Jason Moyer   46 yr old male – Delabole Rd, Pen Argyl PA

On 12/9/2017, SBRPD responded to the Tolino’s Speed Break at 1035 Blue Valley Dr in Plainfield Twp for a report of a Terroristic Threats and Indecent Exposure.  Police arrived and found that a male came into Tolino’s wearing only boxer shorts, a hooded sweatshirt and shoes at approx.. 4:20pm.  The male’s penis was exposed.  The male attempted to purchase cigarettes with “copper coins” (not legal tender).  When the clerk refused to sell to the male, he began threatening the clerk, threatening to “shoot up the place” and kill the clerk.  The male eventually left the store.

Police arrived and reviewed video inside the store and identified the suspect as Moyer.  Police obtained an arrest warrant for Moyer and on 12-10-2017, took him into custody at his home without incident.  Moyer was arraigned and remanded to the Northampton Count prison on $15,000 cash bail.
