Reported Theft of Packages

On February 21, 2017 SBRPD investigated a reported theft from a porch in the 300 block of East Main St. in Pen Argyl Borough.  Police were advised by the victim that packages were delivered via Fed-Ex and were removed from his porch prior to him coming home for the day.  Witnesses observed the packages at approximately 3:00pm.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Slate Belt Regional Police Department.

Theft of Appalachian Trail Entrance Sign

SBRPD is investigating the theft of the Appalachian Trail sign from the parking lot on N. Broadway in Wind Gap PA.  It was noticed stolen on February 25, 2017.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Slate Belt Regional Police Department.

Aggravated Assault and Related Offenses

James Robert Mason       35 yr old male – E. Main St., Pen Argyl PA

On 2/10/2017 at 11:44am, SBRPD officers responded to the Travel Inn located at 499 E. Moorestown Rd., Plainfield Twp for a report of an assault.  Officers located a female who reported that Mason assaulted her while they were in a room at the hotel.  Mason is reported to have thrown a 39 yr old female to the ground, kicking and punching her in the ribs and face.  It was also reported that Mason choked her with his hand, then wrapped a plastic grocery bag around her neck to choke her.  The victim related that Mason put a pillow over her face and threatened to kill her.

After the assault, Mason left the area.  The victim was taken to Muhlenburg Hospital via ambulance.

Shortly after the assault, Mason appeared at the SBRPD headquarters to pick up a report on another matter and was taken into custody.  He was transported to the N.C. Central Booking Center and was later arraigned by Justice Corpora.  Mason was remanded to the NCP on $50,000 straight bail.

Media Release – 2/8/2017

Simple Assault – Susan Kresge  N. Harding Ave., Pen Argyl PA

On January 31, 2017, SBRPD responded to a residence in the 100 block of N. Harding Ave. , in Pen Argyl for a domestic disturbance.  Officers learned that Kresge struck a 25 year old male from the residence in the arm with a baseball bat and struck him in the face.  Kresge was taken into custody for domestic assault, and related offenses.

 

DUI – Laura Jade   Phillipsburg NJ

On February 3, 2017 at 1:37 am, SBRPD responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 1300 block of Colony Ln, Plainfield Twp. for a report of a suspicious vehicle.  The vehicle’s driver knocked on the door of a residence, then left the area.  SBRPD found a vehicle matching the description parked diagonally on Benders Church Rd., a close distance from the original call.  Police located Jade and arrested her for DUI after she failed field testing.  She was later taken to the DUI processing center.

 

DUI – Tyler Flemming   Whitehall PA

On February 3, 2017at 1:08 am, SBRPD on patrol located a Honda parked on the side of Books Hill Rd., Plainfield Twp. occupied by Flemming.  The officer believed that Flemming was under the influence of alcohol.  Flemming did not successfully complete field coordination tests and was placed in custody for DUI.  He was later transported to the DUI processing center.

DUI
Clinton Ball – Sullivan Trail, Wind Gap PA
On 12/21/2016 at approximately 12:15am, observed Ball riding a scooter without lights or reflectors on Sullivan Trail in Plainfield Twp. The Officer stopped Ball, who admitted to smoking marijuana in a “vape pen” earlier on the ride from Easton to his location. Ball failed field coordination tests and was arrested for DUI. Charges were filed at District Magistrate Schlegel’s office in Wind Gap, PA.

Assault
Cheyenne Lytle – E. Main St., Pen Argyl PA
On 12/24/2016 at approximately 6:50 pm, Slate Belt Regional Police were called to the 200 block of E. Main Street in Pen Argyl for a report of a domestic dispute in progress. On scene, officers learned that Lytle was involved in an argument with a 20 yr old male at a residence. During the argument, Lytle punched the victim in the face numerous times. Lytle was arrested and charged with Simple Assault and related offenses and taken to the Central Booking Center. Lytle was arraigned by District Magistrate Manwaring and given $5,000 / Unsecured bail.

Assault
Earl Hartzell – Pennsylvania Ave., Pen Argyl PA
On 12/24/2016 at approximately 11:15pm, Slate Belt Regional Police were called to a home in the 100 block of Pennsylvania Ave in Pen Argyl Borough for a report of a Domestic Dispute. On scene, officers learned that Hartzell was involved in an argument with a female inside the home. During the argument, Hartzell pushed the female to the floor. The female was holding a 1 yr old child at the time. The female complained of minor pain and the baby suffered a bruise to the head. Police placed Hartzell into custody for Simple Assault and related offenses. He was later arraigned and given $5,000 / 10% bail.

Assault
Adam Voelker – Sullivan Trail, Nazareth PA
On 12/20/2016 at approximately 1:30pm, Slate Belt Regional Police responded to a residence in the 5700 block of Sullivan trail in Plainfield Twp for a report of a Domestic Disturbance inside the home. Arrival officers learned that Voelker assaulted another male inside the home, punching him in the chest and face causing visible injuries. Officers took Voelker into custody for Simple Assault and related charges. Voelker was taken to the Central Booking Center where he was arraigned. Voelker was committed to the Northampton County Prison on $5,000 bail.

Theft

William Gallagher – Nazareth PA

On November 27, 2016 police were called to a residence on William Street in Pen Argyl Borough for a theft report.  Police were advised that Gallagher was watching the victim’s home while they were on vacation.  During the victim’s absence, Gallagher stole medication from the home.  Gallagher’s actions were caught on the victim’s security cameras inside the home.  Gallagher is charged with Theft and Receiving Stolen Property.  Charges were filed at District Justice Zito’s Office in Bangor.

Simple Assault

Adam Kromer  32 yr old male  W. Main St., Pen Argyl PA

On 10-21-2016, SBRPD responded to an assault at the PNC Bank, 1 N. Robinson Ave in Pen Argyl.  Police learned that Kromer had punched another patron in the face as the patron of the bank walked out of the building.  Kromer had left the area prior to police arrival.  Police filed charges of Simple Assault, Harassment and Disorderly Conduct at District Magistrate Zito’s Office.

 

Retail Theft                

Jason Roth  31 yr old male  Shady Lane, Plainfield Twp

Fallon Jones  33 yr old female  Shady Lane, Plainfield Twp

On 10/19/2016, SBRPD officers were dispatched to the Giant, 837 Male Rd., Wind Gap PA for a report of a Retail Theft in progress.  Roth and Jones attempted to remove over $30.00 of food from the store and then fled.  When confronted by staff, Roth fled, leaving Jones at the Giant.  Officers located the suspect’s car in the 6300 block of Sullivan Trail in Plainfield Twp.  Officers took Roth into custody.  Officers charged both with Retail Theft.

Contractor Scam

On October 19,2016 police responded to a report of a contractor scam in Wind Gap Borough.  A resident of the 300 block of N. Broadway reported that at approximately 1145am, a person came to her home and stated that the homeowner had a tree in the backyard that needed to be trimmed.  The male stated that he would do the work for $850.  The victim gave the male cash.  The male then advised that he was doing work on Broadway in Wind Gap and would be back in two hours.  The male never returned.

Suspect:  “Young” W/M, 5’8”, medium build with short brown or black hair.  Suspect left in a “shiny” red crew cab pick up truck, unknown make/model.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Slate Belt Regional Police Department (610)759-8517.

Burglary  

5700 Block – Kesslersville Rd

On 10/1/2016, police were called to a residence in the 5700 block of Kesslersville Rd in Plainfield Twp for a report of a burglary.  In the overnight hours of 9/30 to 10/1, an unknown person(s) entered the homeowner’s shed and removed several gas/electric powered lawn tools (Weed Trimmer, leaf blower, hedge trimmer, chain saw).  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Slate Belt Regional Police Department at 610-759-8517.

 

Burglary

1200 Block – Capp Rd., Plainfield Twp

On 10/2/2016, police were called to a residence in the 1200 Block of Capp Rd in Plainfield for the report of a theft of an ATV and 4 wheeled UTV from a barn on the property.  The owner advised that between 10/1 and 10/2, unknown person(s) entered the barn and removed a 2004 Yamaha Grizzly 660 and a 2014 Polaris Ranger.  3 hunting rifles and various tools were also removed.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Slate Belt Regional Police Department at 610-759-8517.

 

Retail Theft

CVS – 855 S. Broadway  Wind Gap PA

On September 29th, SBRPD was called to the CVS in Wind Gap for a report of a retail theft.  A person described as a W/M wearing a grey sweat shirt, blue jeans and a black baseball cap walked to the rear of the store.  The male took out a plastic bag from his shirt and filled it with Oral B toothbrushes and Crest White Strips, totaling $364.  The suspect fled in a Black Nissan Pathfinder with a PA registration plate.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Slate Belt Regional Police at 610-759-8517.

Update – Attempted Strong Armed Robbery

Slate Belt Regional Police Department arrested Richard Keith Vautrin  23 yr old male, Effort PA   for the  attempted strong armed robbery at the Square One Convenience Store, 249 S. Broadway in Wind Gap PA.  At approximately 4:10am on 9/21/2016, Vautrin came into the store and picked up a “Tastykake” from the shelf and proceeded to the counter.  When the clerk opened the register, Vautrin  reached over the counter and attempted to take money from the register.  Vautrin stated several times – “no one’s gonna get hurt”.  The clerk quickly attempted to close the drawer and began hitting Vautirn in  the arm.  Another clerk attempted to grab his shirt to pull him away from the counter and a brief struggle ensued as he attempted to break free.  No money was taken.  Vautrin then fled the store in a stolen Ford pick-up truck which police later recovered.  
On 9/24/2016, Vautrin turned himself in to the Pennsylvania State Police.  Slate Belt Regional Police picked up Vautrin and arraigned him on charges of Attempted Robbery, Receiving Stolen Property and related offenses.  Bail was set at $75,000 and Vautrin was remanded to the Northampton County Prison.

Attempted Strong Armed Robbery

Square One Convenience Store – 249 S. Broadway, Wind Gap PA

Suspect Description:  White Male, Mid 20’s, Medium Build, 6’0” tall, short dirty blond/lt. brown hair, short “scruffy” beard

Wearing:  Jeans, red t-shirt and a baseball cap with an American Flag on the front Suspect wearing Latex gloves

Operating:  Full Size Dodge Ram Pick-Up Truck, side step rails, NO TAILGATE, orange lights on cab

Slate Belt Regional Police Department is investigating an attempted strong armed robbery at the Square One Convenience Store, 249 S. Broadway in Wind Gap PA.  At approximately 4:10am, the above described male came into the store and picked up a “Tastykake” from the shelf and proceeded to the counter.  When the clerk opened the register, the male reached over the counter and attempted to take money from the register.  The suspect stated several times – “no one’s gonna get hurt”.  The clerk quickly attempted to close the drawer and began hitting the suspect in the arm.  Another clerk attempted to grab his shirt to pull him away from the counter and a brief struggle ensued as he attempted to break free.  No money was taken.

The suspect then fled the store and entered a grey Dodge pick-up truck (described above).  The truck left the lot at a high rate of speed onto S. Broadway toward Rte 33.

The employees reported no injuries.  SBRPD is asking anyone with information about this incident to contact the Slate Belt Regional Police Department at 610-759-8517.
